Torrential rain drenched drought-plagued Southern California today, triggering at least 150 crashes on slickened roads and power outages that plunged 13,000 homes into darkness.
A tractor-trailer rig jackknifed on the slippery eastbound Pomona Freeway in the Diamond Bar area, scattering its load of all-terrain vehicles and closing the highway all morning. The wreckage still had the roadway closed at noon. Gusty winds to 35 m.p.h. and hail was reported throughout the area, including a noontime pelting downtown.
