Prayers and songs filled the air as Poles and Jews remembered those who fought the Nazis and died in the Warsaw Ghetto 45 years ago. The ceremony took place in front of the Ghetto Fighters Monument in the heart of Warsaw. A representative of a Polish veterans organization, which organized the observance, planted an oak tree nearby as a symbol of hope, and delegations from Polish organizations and Jewish groups worldwide laid wreaths at the monument.
