Old Hindu Manuscript Leads Man to Water

NEW DELHI — A geologist has found water in drought-stricken India by using a 1,300-year-old Hindu manuscript that relies on anthills and trees as clues, the Press Trust of India said Monday.
Prof. E. A. V. Prasad began looking for water last January in a dry district in the western state of Gujarat.
Water gushed out at a rate of 2,000 gallons an hour from a borehole he ordered sunk 5 yards north of a banyan tree entwined by a date palm, the agency said. In another village, a well sunk 3 yards north of a termite mound covered with vegetation spewed 3,000 gallons of water an hour.
