Tax Reform

Hey, wait a minute! Why is Congress catching all of the brickbats for “tax simplification” and the resulting mess which has occurred in our tax code? I have the very clear recollection that the pressure for tax simplification was coming from Ronald Reagan. The President, unwilling to confront the real problems of budget deficits and attendant need for tax increases, seized upon the slogan-concept of tax simplification, a non-solution to a non-problem. And so, along with motherhood, apple pie, the flag and “Morning in America,” we got tax simplification.
If anything, Congress should be chastised for caving in to this silly business originating from the White House!
