‘Cry of the Owl’
France-Italy, 1987, 102 minutes , 8 p.m. Director Claude Chabrol and mystery novelist Patricia Highsmith are a winning combination in this elegant, darkly humorous tale of psychological suspense. A lonely young man, working in Vichy, makes an innocent overture to a young woman that has disastrous consequences. A wonderfully mordant view of the ways in which our worst instincts collide with fate. RECOMMENDED.
