‘The Ice Palace’
Norway, 1987, 78 minutes , 5:45 p.m. A cerebral saga of desires within young girls. Writer-director Per Blom trusts too much to our imagination in establishing a friendship between two preteens. The orphaned outsider--as a result of a freakish accident--becomes caught inside an ice cavern where the threat of hypothermia is painstakingly viewed. The obvious becomes oblique, suggesting something grander than what’s actually on film.
