America’s Cup skipper Dennis Conner’s first competitive event on a catamaran will be the 41st annual Newport-to-Ensenada race starting April 22.
Conner, who won the Cup back from Australia last year, has been designated to skipper Sail America’s catamaran against New Zealand’s bigger monohull in defense of the Cup next September off San Diego.
He will sail in the Ocean Racing Catamaran Assn. division of the Ensenada race on Stars & Stripes T-1, one of two 40-foot Formula 40 craft he has been practicing on until the new 58-foot America’s Cup boats are ready next month.
