The Huntington Beach man who underwent Orange County’s first heart transplant “is doing very well” a spokeswoman for UCI Medical Center said Tuesday.
The 26-year-old musician, whose identity has not been released at the request of his family and doctors, was in critical but stable condition at the hospital in Orange, where the five-hour operation took place last Friday.
“For someone who’s undergone such a serious operation, he’s doing very, very well,” spokeswoman Elaine Beno said.
For the first time since receiving the heart of Marine Staff Sgt. Richard William Bottjer, he was able to get out of bed without help and step onto scales to weigh himself Tuesday, Beno said.
