Bids are being accepted for Santa Monica Pier construction that is part of a long-awaited restoration and development project at the 67-year-old landmark.
The Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp. is inviting “experienced developers/operators” who “share our vision for the pier’s future” to submit proposals.
Five areas will be developed in the first phase of the project:
One developer is being sought to build up to 40,000 square feet of commercial space, including at least two restaurants and eight fast-food outlets, for the designated “Central Plaza Area.”
In the “Fun Zone,” novelty booths, amusement rides and games will be built in a 40,000-square-foot space.
About 4,000 square feet in the historic Billiard Building is slated for renovation and will house an entertainment business.
Sinbad’s, another historic building, will house a theater or nightclub and a restaurant in 6,400 square feet of space.
A new, 4,000-square-foot building will be constructed on Ocean Front Walk in the Carrousel Park for retail or restaurant use.
The closing date for bidding is July 1 for all areas except the Central Plaza Area, which closes June 1.
All of the work is part of a $21-million, three-year project.
Specific guidelines are available for $8 from the Pier Restoration Corp., 201 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, Calif. 90401.
