Grammy Award-winning jazz guitarist Larry Carlton was seriously wounded Wednesday when a gunman ambushed him as he entered him home in the Lake Hollywood area of the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles police said.
Detectives said Carlton, 40, was at the entrance of his Tareco Drive home when one of two teen-age boys who had been standing across the street ran in and fired at least one shot.
Carlton, who was struck in the neck, was in serious but stable condition at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
The youths, who had a German shepherd puppy with them, fled on foot, police said.
Carlton’s friends called him “a guitarist’s guitarist--one of the generally great guys in this industry.”
