Long Beach : High Court Clears Gaylord

The state Supreme Court has let stand a lower court ruling clearing the former chairman of the Long Beach Planning Commission of misdemeanor charges of soliciting a prostitute.
“It means a second victory. I feel great,” said Richard Gaylord, who was arrested in April, 1987, near Bixby Park in Long Beach for allegedly offering $20 to an undercover police officer to perform a sex act.
City Prosecutor John Vander Lans said he will await a written opinion from the Supreme Court before deciding whether to press further charges against Gaylord, a Long Beach real estate broker. The court let stand a state Court of Appeal decision that mere agreement between parties is insufficient for a prostitution conviction.
