Japanese police are investigating two trading companies on suspicion of illegal export of precision instruments to China. The Ministry of Trade and Industry asked the police to investigate whether Kyokuto Shokai Co. and Shinsei Koeki Co. illegally exported digital memory devices, sampling oscilloscopes and signal analyzers in 1985 and 1986. Exports of these machines are restricted under Coordinating Committee on Export Controls regulations, which restrict the selling of high-technology goods to communist countries.
