4 Youths Slide to Their Deaths in Austria Alps

VIENNA — Four British schoolboys, unable to stop sliding on a snow-covered mountainside, plunged to their deaths on Monday in the Austrian Alps just outside the tourist city of Salzburg.
“They were sliding around in boots but then they couldn’t stop themselves, they fell over a cliff,” a police spokesman said, adding that the victims were 14 or 15 years old.
He said the four fell while scrambling on the mile-high Untersberg, a popular excursion for tourists staying in Salzburg.
