AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: The Smothers Brothers are not only back on TV, but disc and CD too. In May, Rhino Records will issue a “Best of the Smothers Brothers” album, loaded with mid-’60s comedy routines and the Smothers versions of such classics as “I Talk to the Trees” and “Michael, Row the Boat Ashore.” . . . Is the Cult breaking up? Not yet--but two members have left the band, drummer Les Warner and bassist Kid Chaos. No replacements have been named yet. . . . Not to be missed--at least if you’re into weird death-cult worship--is Morrissey’s new “Suedehead” video. The clip offers a bizarre homage to James Dean, with the ex-Smiths crooner traveling to Dean’s Indiana hometown, where he buzzes around in a tractor and broods at Dean’s grave. . . . Herbie Hancock’s new album, “Perfect Machine,” features such funk all-stars as bassist Bootsy Collins, ex-Ohio Players singer Sugarfoot and scratch master DST. . . . And Prince (remember him?) has given Robert Palmer a new song, “Lust U Always,” which appear on Palmer’s upcoming solo record.
