High School Roundup : Madison Wins Softball Title
SAN DIEGO — Madison High School won three games Wednesday to claim the Orange Glen Tournament softball championship.
The Warhawks defeated Grossmont in the first game, 6-1, to set up a championship showdown with Patrick Henry in the double-elimination tournament at Kit Carson Park. Madison defeated Patrick Henry, 6-1 and 7-4.
In the first game with Henry, Kim Lester was 2 for 3 with 4 runs batted in. Madison scored five runs in the third en route to the second victory over Henry. Lester was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and Christy Serritella was 3 for 4 and scored twice. Madison pitcher Debbie Corbett was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
BASEBALL
At the Cowboy Classic in Las Vegas:
Bonita Vista 13, East (Utah) 5--Winds estimated at 45 m.p.h. were enough that Bonita Vista pitcher Randy Abshier was blown off the mound and called for a balk in the second inning. Abshier (4-0) still managed to pitch a seven-hitter. Teddy Ehrhardt had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs to lead Bonita Vista’s 13-hit attack.
Bonita Vista 8, La Puente 8--Teddy Ehrhardt stole home in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, and Bonita Vista (8-3) was awarded the victory because it had 14 hits to La Puente’s 13.
