Milk, Cheese Program Revived

WASHINGTON — Government distribution of surplus milk to needy families will resume on a temporary basis in June following a one-month suspension, the Department of Agriculture announced today.
USDA announced last month it would suspend milk and cheese distributions under the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program. USDA officials said the suspension was necessary because of dwindling inventories of the goods. The program began on orders from President Reagan in 1981 when surpluses were piling up.
