Reagan Picks Hope’s Daughter-in-Law to Replace Bork

WASHINGTON — President Reagan has chosen comedian Bob Hope’s daughter-in-law to succeed former Judge Robert Bork on the federal appeals court in the nation’s capital, it was reported today.
Reagan decided on Judith Richards Hope for the position, the Washington Post said. Hope, 47, is a graduate of Harvard Law School and currently serves as general counsel for the GOP presidential campaign of Bob Dole.
Hope is a partner in the District of Columbia office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky and Walker, a Los Angeles-based law firm.
Hope, who originally told Administration officials that she was not interested in the job, changed her mind after a call from Reagan, the newspaper said.
Bork resigned from the U.S. District Court of Appeals after failing to win Senate confirmation of his nomination to the Supreme Court.
