John Wayne Airport had more planes but fewer passengers during February, the airport reported this week.
Total aircraft operations--including takeoffs and landings for commercial and private planes--climbed 5% to 38,214, compared to 36,402 in February, 1987. But airline passenger traffic at the Irvine airport dropped 1.5% last month to 340,574 from 345,773 recorded one year ago.
General aviation activity accounted for 81% of total aircraft operations last month, a 5.6% increase over February, 1987.
And air carrier flight operations jumped 3.6%, while commuter airline operations dropped 4.8% from the prior year.
