The historic Ice House Canyon Lodge, 1 mile north of Mt. Baldy Village in San Bernardino County, burned to the ground Tuesday in a fire of undetermined origin.
Mt. Baldy Assistant Fire Chief Gary Wilson said the blaze appeared to have started in the back of the two-story ski lodge and restaurant.
Wilson estimated damage at $500,000. He said it took about 90 minutes for firefighters from his department, the California Division of Forestry and the Los Angeles County Fire Department to control the flames. One firefighter narrowly missed injury when a chimney collapsed.
