William G. Quinn, co-founder of the Huntington Harbour Sun, died early Monday of cancer at his Sunset Beach home. He was 63.
Born March 3, 1925, in Elwood, Ind., Quinn studied journalism at the University of Wyoming and later became a beat reporter covering courts in several Midwestern cities. In the early 1950s, he moved to the Los Angeles area to edit an architecture and construction trade magazine.
Quinn returned to the newspaper business in the mid-1970s when he helped start the Harbour Sun, a weekly publication in Huntington Harbour. He ran the paper for six years, then left to become editor of the Huntington Beach News, where he worked until he became ill and retired.
Quinn is survived by his wife, Adele; a brother, Rod Quinn of Burbank; and a sister, Jacque Winter, and his mother, Mary Quinn, both of Costa Mesa.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon today at Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary. Contributions can be made in Quinn’s name to the Los Angeles chapter of the American Cancer Society.
