Barbara Walters turned from interviewer to interviewee Saturday night at the Los Angeles County Museum following a special retrospective of her career. Some of Walters’ answers: “I would rather interview Katharine Hepburn than anyone.” Barbra Streisand? “A perfectionist, a superb talent.” Bette Midler: “Fun.” Walters described herself as “mellower” than she was when she started 20 years ago and also dropped some tidbits from her personal life. Walters mentioned that her show, “20/20” runs on ABC opposite “Falcon Crest,” produced by Lorimar, which is headed by Walters’ husband Merv Addleson. “When we tie ‘Falcon Crest’ in the ratings, no one is happier than Merv. It’s only when we beat them as we did last Friday in the overnight that he objects.” Walters was being honored at the fifth Museum of Broadcasting television festival.
