Euthanasia Controversy
While everyone in our free society has the right to debate all issues, it would be reassuring if doctors declared themselves disqualified to consider the question of euthanasia by reason of a professional prejudice in behalf of life. Since the physician’s assignment is to prolong life and relieve pain, if he is incompetent to do the latter surely he can’t claim competence to make the larger decision as between life and death.
