Prep Roundup : Leslie Leads University to Volleyball Title
University High School won the Laguna Hills volleyball tournament Saturday, defeating Mission Viejo, 15-2, 15-4.
Scott Leslie led the Trojans, who were 13-1 in their championship-round games. Leslie had 38 kills in the championship round and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. University also received good performances from Stephan Mumaw, who had 38 kills, and setter Jay Kim.
To reach the final, University defeated Trabuco Hills, 15-11, 15-4, in the quarterfinals and Miraleste in the semifinals, 15-12, 10-15, 18-16.
In nonleague volleyball:
Dos Pueblos Volleyball Invitational--Edison High School lost in the championship match, 15-9, to Santa Monica at UC Santa Barbara. Edison defeated Bullard in one quarterfinal, 15-4. Newport Harbor beat Marina in another quarterfinal, 15-9. Edison beat Newport Harbor in a semifinal, 15-13.
In nonleague swimming:
Sonora Invitational--Fullerton won the boys’ championship by outscoring Whittier, 277 1/2-255 1/2. Host Sonora won the girls’ championship by outscoring Bellflower, 207-174.
