An 89-year-old woman was fatally injured Wednesday when she was hit by a car while crossing El Cajon Boulevard, police said.
Ruth Evans was taken to Mercy Hospital by paramedics, where she died at 10:20 a.m. of multiple injuries suffered in the accident, Deputy Corner Chuck Bolton said.
San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said Evans, who resided in the 1400 block of Illinois Street, was using a cane as she walked north across El Cajon at Ohio Street when she stepped off a center divider and was hit by a car driven by a San Diego man.
Robinson said the car was traveling at 10 to 15 m.p.h.--well within the legal speed limit--and the driver was not cited.
