The son of Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl F. Gates was among five people arrested in Rosemead and charged with being under the influence of various kinds of narcotics, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Friday.
Lowell Scott Gates, 32, was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of cocaine in Rio Hondo Municipal Court Friday; trial was set for next Friday.
In the last three years, he has been convicted of robbery, theft and grand theft, and as long ago as 1978 had been under state-ordered treatment for narcotics abuse.
A sheriff’s spokesman said that deputies made the latest arrests Wednesday night when they discovered Gates and the others having a party in an open garage.
