* 1/2”Beverly Hills Cop II.” Paramount. $89.95.
Listen, you didn’t really have to wait until now to see the sequel on video. All you had to do was rent the original Eddie Murphy blockbuster and turn up your TV set’s volume as loud as it goes. “II” is “I”--only III times noisier, faster and sillier. Murphy is the same old jiving, conniving Axel Foley, trekking from Detroit to Deluxe on one of his unscheduled crime-fighter West Coast vacations. The leitmotif of the two stories is identical--street-smart black cop hits Rodeo Drive for culture clash--with more chases, more shooting, more shtick. But Murphy’s Foley is the hottest cop since Dick Tracy. The two “B. H. Cop” movies grossed nearly $400 million in the United States alone. If you give any more money to Paramount for this noise, you’ll be contributing to the delinquency of a major.
