The World : Ethiopia Food Aid Curbed

The Red Cross has been forced to suspend virtually all of its emergency food distribution in Ethiopia’s drought-stricken Tigre province as major supply roads in the region were closed to non-military traffic because of clashes between rebels and government troops, Western diplomats said in Addis Ababa. Feeding operations of several other relief agencies also ground to a halt, leaving nearly 600,000 people cut off from relief supplies. In Washington, the State Department expressed grave concern that northern Ethiopia could face widespread starvation because of the fighting.
