Harris Glenn Milstead, the 300-pound female impersonator better known to movie audiences as the flamboyant “Divine,” died of heart disease brought on by his obesity, a coroner’s spokesman said Wednesday.
An autopsy determined that the 42-year-old actor died in his sleep Monday at the Regency Plaza Hotel in Hollywood of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, said coroner’s spokesman Steve Stewart. “He was a very heavy man and his heart was enlarged as a result of his weight,” Stewart said.
Milstead was known for the outrageous roles he played in films such as “Pink Flamingos,” “Hairspray,” “Lust in the Dust” and “Polyester.”
