The New York state health department has begun an investigation into the emergency treatment given Canisius College basketball player Jeff Taggart, who suffered a fatal seizure during a game last weekend in Buffalo, N.Y.
The state decided to conduct its probe because of the unusual nature of Taggart’s death and because of a complaint received from a Memorial Auditorium spectator that the medical treatment and response time were inadequate.
Taggart, who would have turned 21 Tuesday, suffered the seizure while sitting on the bench during a game against Niagara University Saturday night.
