SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT : Girls’ Roundup : Westchester and Lynwood to Meet After Easy Wins
Trisha Stafford scored 22 points, and Tammy Story added 15 as City 4-A champion Westchester ran past Chino, 68-43, Tuesday night in the opening round of the Division I Southern California Regionals of the state girls high school basketball tournament.
Westchester will meet Southern Section 4-A runner-up Lynwood, a 72-42 winner over San Diego Mt. Carmel, in the semifinals Thursday.
Westchester, the City 4-A champion, lost to Lynwood, 43-40, in the Morningside tournament in December.
Also in the 4-A, Inglewood Morningside, the Southern Section 4-A champion, beat Reseda, the City 3-A champion, 70-31.
In Division II, Los Altos, the Southern Section 3-A runner-up, beat Fallbrook of the San Diego Section, 47-36, at Los Altos.
Center Susan Peters had 23 points and 17 rebounds for Los Altos (21-4), which meets Palos Verdes in a rematch of the 3-A championship game won by Palos Verdes.
Also in Division II, center Renee Schneider scored 20 points to lead Sanger, the Central Section Division II champion, to a 51-35 win over Southern Section 2-A runner-up Woodbridge. Randee Mahoney scored 17 points to lead Woodbridge (25-7), which shot only 18% from the floor. Sanger (27-6) advances to the semifinals against Escondido San Pasqual, a 38-32 winner over La Mesa Helix.
