His first double eagle was the difference as Bobby Nichols, the 1964 PGA tournament champion, shot 68 for a three-stroke victory in the Glendale Development Council Pro-Am tournament at Oakmont Country Club.

Nichols, 51, used a metal wood to sink his 205-yard second shot on the par-five, 459-yard ninth hole. Although he has had six holes-in-one, he said it was the first double eagle of his career. He won $2,000.

Al Geiberger, Harold Henning and Gay Brewer tied for second at 71, followed by George Lanning, Orville Moody and Larry Mowry, 72; Bruce Crampton, 73, and Ken Still and John Brodie, 74.
