A federal judge was to decide whether to release Wall Street trader John Mulheren, arrested last month for allegedly plotting to shoot convicted inside trader Ivan F. Boesky. A federal magistrate ordered Mulheren released on bail Saturday to a psychiatric hospital, but a federal judge stayed that order. Mulheren, 38, of Rumson, N.J., was detained Feb. 18 on a federal criminal complaint that he threatened to kill Boesky, a central figure in the government’s investigation of insider tading on Wall Street, and Michael Davidoff, Boesky’s former head trader. Both Boesky and Davidoff have pleaded guilty to securities law violations.
