K mart Corp. said it is getting into the warehouse membership store business with the acquisition of 51% of Makro Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of the Dutch company SHV Holdings. Makro operates four stores in the Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Washington metropolitan areas. Makro stores range from 150,000 to 200,000 square feet and sell apparel, other merchandise and groceries. Shoppers must present a Makro membership card to get into the stores. SHV will continue to hold the remaining 49% of Makro, K mart said in a statement.
