Thanks to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The Feb. 19 fire at the home next door to mine was contained, damaging just the one home. With outstanding efficiency and courage these firefighters contained the lapping flames and not even the wooden fence three feet away was damaged. The occupant was saved because she had a smoke alarm, and the house my grandfather built in 1929 was saved, thanks to our well-spent tax money: the Los Angeles Fire Department.
