Employment in the U.S. electronics industry reached 2.54 million last December, up 2.8% from December, 1986, and reaching the highest level since April, 1986. Computer software and programming jobs showed the biggest one-year gain, up 13.8%. The only segment of the industry that had a decline in employment was communications equipment, which dropped 2.7%.
