Stewart on the Mark Blasting ABC Coverage
I was very glad after reading the article that Larry Stewart wrote about the deplorable way ABC is handling the broadcast of the Olympics.
Is ABC (and especially Dick Button and Peggy Fleming) on the same planet and attending the same Olympics that I’m struggling to watch on television?
ABC has truly managed to hit new lows with the way it is handling the Olympics. The next time I want a cooking lesson on pastries, I’ll tune in Julia Child! If ABC wants to broadcast these human interest (?) stories, why doesn’t it have an hour spot after the normal sports reporting? That way, if anyone really is interested in learning how to sprinkle powdered sugar on pastries, they are welcome to watch it, and I won’t have to suffer through it.
There must be another way other than for the highest bidder to be awarded the rights to broadcast these important events. Can’t some sort of a grading procedure for the broadcast companies also be used to help decide who gets to handle the broadcast? Perhaps if there was, sports enthusiasts could truly enjoy the broadcasts instead of having to put up with what ABC is trying to force on us as sports broadcasting.
