The Arcadia Unified School District board has awarded a $105,850 contract to McCannical Construction Inc. to build a co-generation plant at Arcadia High School.
The plant, to be completed in four months, will burn natural gas to generate heat and electricity. The heat will be used for the swimming pool and the electricity for lights and air conditioning.
Money to build the plant will come from the district’s special reserve fund. The district hopes to save $50,000 a year in energy costs.
