Black & Decker Corp. said it was willing to make concessions in its bid to take over American Standard Inc., but has been rebuffed in its attempt to personally contact the company’s top management. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the power tool and home appliance maker said Chairman Nolan B. Archibald attempted to telephone American Standard Chairman William B. Boyd on Feb. 11, but the call was not taken. New York-based American Standard, which makes plumbing, heating and air conditioning equipment, has urged its stockholders to reject Black & Decker’s $2.1-billion hostile bid.
