Grossmont College Tennis Notches Victory at Clemson

Joe Thomas defeated Thad Langford, 6-4, 6-4, in singles and the Grossmont College men’s tennis team went on to a 7-2 victory over Clemson University’s B team at Clemson, S.C.
Grossmont (1-2), the state’s No. 1-ranked community college team in the preseason rankings, completes its four-match tour of South Carolina today against Lander College in Greenwood, S.C..
In doubles, the Clemson team of Jim Spencer and Langford defeated Thomas and Dave Mercado, 6-2, 7-6.
SHRINE FOOTBALL
Morse High School offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy and Vista tailback/wide receiver Marc Jones have been invited to play in the 37th annual Shrine All-Star football game July 23 in the Rose Bowl.
Invitations have been sent to 32 Southern California seniors for the game against Northern California’s top senior squad.
Kennedy, a 6-foot 9-inch, 295 tackle for Morse, will attend the University of Washington next fall. Jones, a 6-1, 180-pound running back for Vista, will attend the University of Colorado.
Selections were made by a board of sportswriters who cover high school football in the Southland.
Proceeds go to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Los Angeles.
