An offer by Campeau Corp. of Canada to pay $61 a share, or $5.4 billion, to buy Federated Department Stores Inc. expired without acceptance over the weekend . . . The overall average price of gasoline in the United States slipped three-fourths of a penny over the past two weeks to 96.59 cents a gallon, but a turnaround in the market could be near, oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg reported . . . Owens-Illinois Inc. has announced another extension of its deadline to purchase all outstanding shares of Brockway Inc., moving the deadline from 5 p.m. Friday to Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. . . . Teradyne Corp. of Boston laid off 70 workers--half of them in California--last week because of sluggish sales of its computer chip testing equipment . . .
