Bank Robber Unsatisfied With Loot, Goes Next Door

A man wearing a dark blue pin-striped suit and a tie Wednesday afternoon successfully robbed two Fullerton banks next door to each other on East Chapman Avenue.

“He robbed one bank and apparently was dissatisfied because he went next door to another one,” Fullerton Police Lt. Bud Lathrop said Wednesday night.

Police did not know how much cash the man took. Bank employees told police the robber did not show or mention a weapon, but he was described as “persuasive,” Lathrop said.

The first robbery occurred at 12:40 p.m. at Downey Savings at 2481 E. Chapman Ave.

“Apparently, he just demanded money,” Lathrop said. “He didn’t display a gun . . . he just said, ‘give me all your hundreds.’ ”

But the teller told the man he didn’t have any hundreds. The robber then asked the teller to give him whatever cash was in the drawer.

“He got some 20s. Maybe that’s what caused him to go next door,” Lathrop said.

Five minutes later, a man of the same description demanded hundred-dollar bills from a teller at California First Bank, 2555 E. Chapman Ave., next door to Downey Savings.
