Winners and Prizes in Regional Contest

Pianist Edith Chen won first prize Friday evening in the concerto finals of a three-day regional competition sponsored by the Young Keyboard Artists Assn. in conjunction with Chapman College and Young Chang Piano Co. at the college in Orange.

For her effort, she received $1,000 in cash, a Young Chang grand piano and an engagement (to be announced) with the Pacific Symphony at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

Sponsors said the competition attracted contestants from 14 western states and four Canadian provinces. The other winners and prizes: Wendy Chen, second, $500; Reiko Uchida, third, $400; Simon Tom, fourth, $300; Natalie Zhu, fifth, $200, and Grace Huang, who qualified but did not appear, sixth.
