Applications are being accepted by the San Diego Symphony from musicians age 17 and younger for this season’s Young Artist Concerto Competition. First prize includes four performances of a movement from a major concerto with the San Diego Symphony as part of the orchestra’s Young People’s Concert series this April.
The competition is open to San Diego County performers with the endorsement of their teachers. Artistic administrator Edmundo Diaz del Campo announced that preliminary auditions will be Feb. 6.
The concerto competition was started in 1981 by the symphony, but it was not held last year because of the canceled season.
