College Basketball : Moorpark Tops Santa Monica for 3rd in Row

With Karina Hardman extending her personal scoring streak, the Moorpark women’s team won its third consecutive Western State Conference game, 71-54, over Santa Monica at home Thursday night.
Hardman, a sophomore from Royal High, scored a game-high 30 points, the 11th game in a row in which she has scored at least 20. The 5-6 forward, who scored 14 points in the first half, made 11 of 25 field-goal attempts and 8 of 8 free throws. She also had a game-high seven assists.
Teammate Carol Killick scored 15 points for Moorpark (11-10, 3-0), last season’s conference runner-up
Santa Monica is 7-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Cal Baptist 53, The Master’s 46--The Mustangs shot a paltry 24% from the field and committed 27 turnovers in the NAIA District III loss at home.
Kim Vargas scored 16 points for Master’s (8-5, 3-4) and teammate Shelmarie Tatum added 12.
Ruthie Rush led Cal Baptist (11-4, 3-0) with a game-high 17 points and Sonja Akkerman, a freshman from Christchurch, New Zealand, added 13.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Santa Monica 71, Moorpark 57--The Raiders shot only 46.9%, 39.1% in the first half, in the Western State Conference game at Santa Monica.
Santa Monica, behind Keith Amerson, Kemo Patrick and Courtney Able, shot 56% in the first half to take a commanding 37-20 lead at intermission.
Tom Neumayr and Rich Murphy each scored 14 points for Moorpark (11-7, 1-2).
Amerson led Santa Monica (15-7, 2-1) with 17 points. Able and Patrick each added 14.
