French choreographer Maurice Bejart on Thursday canceled two remaining ballet performances scheduled this week after a disappointing opening night when spectators booed and complained they could not see, Reuters reported. Bejart’s ballet “Malraux--Metamorphosis of the Gods” opened in Lausanne, Switzerland to an audience of 4,000 on Tuesday night but the opening scene was interrupted by shouts from disgruntled spectators and had to be replayed. Bejart, who moved his 60-member troupe to Lausanne from Brussels last year, rushed onto the stage at intermission and announced refunds would be made to the dissatisfied spectators. Two hundred people took up the offer. Although the opening performance received a standing ovation, Bejart said in a statement Thursday that he canceled the remaining shows out of respect for the public and promised full refunds to ticket holders.
