A 55-year-old man, apparently stricken by a heart attack, crashed his car into a section of American Airline’s terminal at Los Angeles International Airport, officials reported, narrowly missing some pedestrians.
Emillus Desai of North Hollywood was driving around a curve “about 5 m.p.h. when he apparently suffered a heart attack and accelerated to about 60 m.p.h.,” according to Los Angeles Police Traffic Officer Tim Cox.
Desai’s car jumped two curbs, knocked down a palm tree and hit a pillar before it plowed into the building, where it crashed against another pillar, about 200 feet from the baggage area, Cox said. “He narrowly missed two pedestrians,” Cox said.
Desai was taken to Centinela Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
