Officer Remains in Critical Condition

Jerry Hartless, the rookie San Diego police officer wounded last weekend in a street chase, remained in critical condition Wednesday in the intensive care unit at the UC San Diego Medical Center.
Meanwhile, police presented their preliminary case files involving their prime suspect, 24-year-old Stacy Don Butler, to the county district attorney’s office.
Butler is being held in County Jail on a parole violation as officials consider filing attempted murder charges against him.
“We’re in the process of reviewing the files,” said Linda Miller, a spokeswoman in the district attorney’s office. “When we’re done, we’ll make a decision on charges.”
