Newlywed Couple Die in Shootings

Only a few hours after returning from a wedding trip to Las Vegas, a university counselor apparently shot and killed his new wife and then himself, LAPD officials said Sunday.
Norma Mayorga, 36, and David Medina, 38, a counselor at Cal State Los Angeles, were found Sunday in his home on Chadwick Street in El Sereno.
“The couple said they had married in Las Vegas and spoke of how happy they were when they stopped by his parents’ home in San Bernardino on the way home from Las Vegas Friday,” Detective Robert Suter said. Police believe the shootings occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday, when a neighbor reported hearing a noise.
Several relatives who had heard of the marriage tried to call on the couple Saturday without success, and Medina’s parents finally entered the house with a key Sunday. They found Mayorga on the floor and Medina’s body seated in a chair with a double-barrelled shotgun across the knees, Suter said.
