A new trade treaty will open American plywood markets to Canadians, but barriers that effectively bar about 80% of U.S.-made plywood from being shipped to Canada remain intact, say three congressmen who have asked the Reagan Administration to push for further changes. Rep. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Rep. Lindsay Thomas (D-Ga.) and Rep. Sonny Callahan (R-Ala.) have asked that implementing legislation for the trade treaty include language that would remove provisions in Canadian building codes that have restricted U.S. plywood exports to Canada.
