Wah Nese Red Rock; Singer and Indian Rights Activist

Wah Nese Red Rock, 74, an actress, singer and Indian rights activist who sang at the White House at two presidential inaugurations--in 1945 for Franklin D. Roosevelt and in 1949 for Harry S. Truman. Truman also asked her to sing at the dedication ceremony for Everglades National Park in 1947. Miss Red Rock sang professionally throughout the world and was a member of the St. Louis Opera Company and the San Francisco Light Opera Company. She also was featured in the movie “Rosemarie” with Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. Miss Red Rock, a member of the Napissing tribe of Canadian Indians, spent many years in Florida, active in Indian rights for the Seminoles. She retired to Alaska in 1964. She died in Anchorage on Monday of unreported causes.
